Janice Purney is a Topeka native through and through, and she knows all the ins and outs of this great city. When the summer months hit, you can find Janice soaking up the sun and taking in the beautiful sights at Lake Shawnee. It’s the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a busy week.

But Janice doesn’t just love the outdoors – she’s also a big fan of downtown Topeka, which has really flourished in recent months. With so many amazing eateries and charming shops popping up, she sees endless potential for the city’s growth and success.

And when it comes to raising a family in Topeka, Janice wouldn’t have it any other way. The schools are top-notch and truly prioritize the well-being of their students. In fact, Janice’s two granddaughters are now attending the same school that her son did – a true testament to the quality of education in this middle American town. All in all, Janice believes that Topeka is the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

What inspired you to work in the field of community economic development?

I saw how the Partnership plays a big part in stimulating the economy and provides assistance to small businesses for their growth needs.

In your opinion, what are some of the most important factors in building a strong and sustainable local economy?

Networking, Assisting, having an open mind, and being willing to help when help is needed.

What's your favorite local business or entrepreneur that you've worked with, and why?

Greater Topeka Partnership- I feel my job at the Partnership is more like a family. All my co-workers are helpful and it seems they are willing to help out in any way. I love how the Partnership serves the community and helps in all ways. Until I started working here, I really did not know what all it entailed, but now. I see every day how much it does provide for growth and economic reasons.

Did you know that Janice's favorite role in life is being a grandma? She loves, loves, loves spending time with her granddaughters and cherishes every moment with them.
