Visit Topeka and USA Wrestling of Kansas announced today that the USA Wrestling Kansas Folkstyle Tournament will be hosted at Topeka’s Stormont Vail Events Center from 2022-2025. Topeka & Shawnee County hosted the state championship for more than 30 years until the 2021 season when USA Wrestling of Kansas decided to relocate the tournament to Mulvane, Kansas. The USA Wrestling Kansas Folkstyle Tournament draws in over 1,800 youth athletes each year from across Kansas to compete at the state level.

“This 30-plus year relationship is very significant to our community, so Visit Topeka made it a top priority to reconnect with USA Wrestling of Kansas and sell them on the great new assets our community possess as well as the many resources that kept this relationship strong for so many years,” Mike Bell, vice president of sports sales and marketing, Visit Topeka, said.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome USA Wrestling of Kansas back to our community,” Sean Dixon, president of Visit Topeka, said. “My staff, as well as our hoteliers, restaurants and hospitality partners, gear up each year to accommodate youth athletes and their families to make this experience all the more special for them.”

“USA Wrestling of Kansas has had a great relationship with Topeka & Shawnee County,” Will Cokely, state chairman of USA Wrestling of Kansas, said. “We are happy to return in 2022 to continue this storied and mutually beneficial partnership.”

Bell continued, “Thank you to the Topeka Lodging Association, SVEC and Shawnee County for working with Visit Topeka to bring this state tournament back to the Capital City.”
