TOPEKA DAY

AT THE

CAPITOL

FEBRUARY 10, 2026

OVERVIEW

As Kansas lawmakers return to Topeka for the start of the 2026 Legislative Session, the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce is preparing to actively engage on behalf of our business community through Topeka Day at the Capitol. This year’s session is expected to move quickly, operating on a true 90-day calendar with adjournment anticipated by mid-April. With all Kansas House seats and statewide offices on the ballot in November, legislators will be balancing a shortened session, budget pressures, and election-year dynamics, while Republican supermajorities shape the policy landscape in both chambers.

Against this backdrop, Topeka Day at the Capitol provides an important opportunity for local business and civic leaders to directly engage with our Shawnee County delegation, share priorities, and observe the legislative process firsthand. Key issues dominating the session include property tax relief, budget reductions, long-term water policy, and the implementation of early childhood reforms.

Guided by member input and regional collaboration, the Chamber’s legislative priorities for 2026 focus on four strategic areas: investing in critical infrastructure such as highway interchanges and the Kansas River; strengthening the workforce pipeline through childcare access and technical education; protecting proven economic development tools that keep Kansas competitive; and expanding housing options to support a growing workforce. Through this advocacy day, we aim to ensure Topeka’s voice is heard clearly as state leaders make decisions that will shape our community’s economic future.
