A Perfect Burger and All Its Parts: An Eater’s Review by Matt Lara
As a self-proclaimed burger connoisseur, I can honestly say that the burgers from The Pennant are some of the juiciest, most flavorful burgers I have ever eaten. The Pennant is one of the latest restaurants to open in Downtown Topeka and it has something for everyone. The Pennant uses quality and local ingredients in their dishes. When you order a burger, you don’t get just a piece of meat on a bun. You get a juicy burger patty seasoned with Moburts seasoning. And below that bun you will find some of the best toppings imaginable: guacamole, smoked gouda, peanut butter or jalapeno bacon cream cheese. It’s hard to pick just one favorite, so here’s two: In my opinion you can’t go wrong with The Pennant Original (an Black Angus beef patty generously glazed with hickory smoked cheddar cheese and garnished with tomato, pickles, onions, lettuce) or The Big Apple (a Pork belly burger immersed in hickory smoked cheddar cheese, topped with oven baked apple chips and Babb Bros BBQ Sauce). Both burgers embody the unique and delightful flavor blends The Pennant strives for (and achieves!).
On top of that, they have a burger for meat and plant eaters! Try the Beety Goodness, a beet quinoa patty piled with brussel sprouts beet relish and creamy herb goat cheese sauce. Need a sweet indulgence after the main course? Try one of their signature shakes, like the Praline Delight.
Going to the Pennant isn’t only fun in your mouth. They also have a vintage arcade – that’s more than 25 vintage arcade games including pinball, Space Invader and or NBA Jam Fam – and bowling! If people watching is your thing, then check out the beer garden located on the second floor: a wall of windows overlooking Downtown Topeka to check out the activity that is happening. And for a limited time, you can watch the Cyrus Hotel going up! Learn more about the Pennant and check out the menu on their website. You can also just head out for a bite to eat. They are located at 915 S Kansas Ave.
