SmartAsset.com, the largest marketplace connecting consumers to financial advisors, released a study today ranking Topeka, Kansas as the #12 “best state capital city to live in.” Topeka, Kansas ranks alongside Madison, WI (#1), Lincoln, NE (#4), and Des Moines, IA (#10). The capital of Kansas ranks higher than Austin, TX (#16), Nashville, TN (#25), and Oklahoma City, OK (#26).

US Census data recently showed that Shawnee County has reached a historically high population in 2020, climbing to 179,809 residents. Poverty declined 44% over the past ten years to 9.7%, from 17.5% in 2010 and average household incomes increased by 33%. Total GDP for Shawnee County grew by nearly $1B at the same time.
