Steve Gleason’s eyes light up as he recalls his past floral recreations, each one a personal story. Since 1991, Cliff Wright and Steve, co-owners of University Flowers, have made flowers their livelihood and passion.

As University Flowers is owner operated, it’s not unusual for Steve and Cliff to put in over 12 hours at the flower shop. They always hard at work providing consultations, floral design and delivery. The duo also offer customers a wide collection of antiques, including decor, vases and variety of other glass wares and collectables.

Specializing in more traditional style arrangements, Steve and Cliff relate that some of their best work is their personalized funeral arrangements.

“I like to be able to talk to the family and get to know the person that is being remembered,” says Steve, “The arrangement really comes together when you include a personal touch,” whether it be the deceased’s favorite cowboy boots or their Royal’s commemorative baseball.

While flowers might not last forever, the market for flowers is always flourishing. So what’s the appeal?

“Our slogan is ‘Flowers whisper what words can’t say.’” Steve explains, “Flowers are soothing, uplifting, and have an aroma that is calming.”

Styles may change. But Steve and Cliff will happily meet any challenge their clients present them. They can incorporate lights, ornaments, and other unique accents. “We’re able to take what you bring us,” whether it be from Pinterest or another source, and “make it your own arrangement.”

Ultimately, Steve and Cliff opened their own stop so that they could forge their own path, and owning a small business has made all the difference when it comes to their quality of life.

“I can honestly tell people I love my job,” gushes Steve. He can’t think of anything else he’d rather do, and “It makes a difference in life.”

Cliff and Steve also have plans to expand their space. Details are forthcoming. But if you want to keep up-to-date with all University Flowers’ related news, be sure to follow them on Facebook!
