The Washburn Small Business Development Center (SBDC)  provides small business planning and consulting services, as well as training seminars to northeast Kansas entrepreneurs. The Washburn SBDC regularly meets with approximately 400 clients and provides over 100 seminars annually.

Here you will be introduced to the basic steps of starting a small business. Topics include: researching our idea, legal structures, registration requirements, business planning resources and available financing options. Checklists are provided. Event is Free.

9/11 State Tax Workshop
Training Topics: Tax Planning

Learn the basics of sales tax for businesses making retail sales, differences between the KS Retailers’ Sales Tax, and types of Compensating Use Tax. You will gain an understanding of the product & service taxation along with exemption. Fee is $20.

9/11 Sales Tax for Construction Contractors
Training Topics: Tax Planning

Learn and discuss how sales tax applies to materials and labor, Project Exemption Certificates, sales tax returns, and billing.

9/19 Business Planning Certification Workshop
Training Topics: Accounting/Budget, Business Financing, Business Plan, Marketing/Sales

By attending this workshop you’ll get hands-on experience in developing a business plan. You will learn to summarize your idea with a numbers first focus and develop strategies that get results. Fee is $99; Lunch is provided.
